Laundry Love

Every 4th Saturday of the month from 3:00 - 4:15 p.m., Nova's Laundry Love Ministry provides laundry assistance for members of the community who are in financial need at the Fluff and Fold Laundromat near Seafood Port

(21172 Hawthorne Blvd).

This assistance includes laundry money, soap, and fabric softener to complete two loads of laundry per family.

Update (June 23, 2019)

For over seven years NOVA has served the homeless and needy through Laundry Love. Through donations and volunteers from NOVA, we have been able to provide laundry service to guests at a local laundromat. This ministry has been a blessing for an average of 18 guests a month that we serve, some of whom have been coming every month since the beginning.  Laundry Love has been a blessing to us as well. We have gotten to know our guests very well and we have grown closer to some Nova members as well. We couldn’t do this without everyone who volunteers every month with us, Thanks to Celia Kida, Phyllis & Herb Jew, Scott Edwards, Peggy Denhart and Rick D’Amico. Also, thanks to those of you who leave detergent and color catchers in the resource room and drop your extra change and bills into our bucket on our table each week!

Every month we witness God's presence through NOVA's support of our ministry. We also feel it through the gratitude of our guests. Most guests always make sure they say goodbye before they leave and thank us for helping them. It is nice for them to have somewhere to come once a month to get their clothes/blankets washed while chatting with us. They leave the laundromat with dignity and one less thing to worry about knowing that they have clean clothes to wear.

As Laundry Love continues, we have three specific needs that we would like to share with the Nova family. The first would be for more volunteers. We would love to have others join us in this ministry as there are times when we are short-handed and an extra helper would be great. Second would be for any extra quarters anyone may have! We can also always use quarters. Third is for laundry detergent, and pods would be preferred over regular detergent. We used to use powder or liquid detergent but we found we were going through liquid detergent very quickly. About a year ago we had an “I Love Lucy” or “Bobby Brady” laundry incident where 12-15 washing machines were filled with way too much detergent and were all started at the same time. When it came time for the drain cycle, all at the same time, bubbles were coming out of everywhere….even washers we hadn’t used! There were too many machines and too much detergent at once. We then realized our guests were using way too much detergent for each wash, so single pods are so much easier for us to use and distribute. One per load!

Please keep Laundry Love in your prayers. Specifically for sufficient resources and guidance in working with this group. Keep our guests in your prayers so they may find peace, shelter, and answers to their needs.
