Welcome to Nova at Home

Welcome to Nova's gathering for the week of May 10. Here in this online space, you are joining in with hundreds of other people in the South Bay and beyond as you enter into a time of worship in your own home.

Here is what we have put together for this week:

  • Announcements (3 min.)
  • Mother's Day Special (14 min)
  • Worship (13 min.)
  • Message (22 min.)
  • Discussion
  • Prayer
  • Sharing With Others

There is a special children's video lesson available. This lesson will be most effective if you look over the provided lesson guide ahead of time in order to lead your children through some questions and activities.

We hope you find this online gathering to be a blessing. We look forward to seeing you all face-to-face very soon.

Discussion

Take some time to think about and discuss these questions with your spouse, small group, family, or friends.

Ice Breaker

What is one positive outcome from having to change your daily routine because of the pandemic?

First Impressions

Was there anything that stood out to you from this week’s sermon? Perhaps something confused you or perhaps there was something you disagreed with. Please share these things at this time.

Digging Deeper

Oftentimes, in the modern era, the term “church” is used in reference to a specific place or building. However, Scripture doesn’t refer to church this way. Read Acts 14:27, Acts 20:28, and Ephesians 1:22.

  1. What do these brief verses teach you about the church?

  2. Do you think we should stop saying “We go to church?” Why or why not?

Living Out

  1. Why do you think we normally refer to “church” as a specific building or a specific congregation, rather than the body of Christ?

  2. “We don’t go to church, we are the church.” What do you think would change in your life if you viewed church this way?

Prayer

In the midst of challenging times, we are tempted to forget to be joyful. Yet, it is in the challenging moments of life that God proves Himself faithful, as He refines us.

James tells us, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4)

Let us pray…

For joy: God, help us to find the joy of the Lord even in the midst of our trials. Teach us what it means to see beyond our troubles, knowing that You are with us.

For perspective: God, help us also to have our eyes open so we can see the challenges those around us are facing. Teach us to see beyond ourselves, and move toward others.

For perseverance and participation: God, help us to see where you are intervening, working in our world, and helping those in need. Teach us to persevere, and prompt us to participate with You to care for your people.

For our witness: God, help us to live differently in the midst of trials, so that the world might see You in us.
