Prayer
Throughout Scripture the triad of "orphan," "widow," and "alien/foreigner" is used to represent all marginalized people. With this in mind, please read the following passages of Scripture. These are but a few of many passages of Scripture that communicate this theme of caring and providing justice for the marginalized.
He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.
Deuteronomy 10:18-19
Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.
Jeremiah 22:3
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27
The black community in the United States has continued to be oppressed at the hand of systemic and even blatant racism. Take a moment to pray for this community - that justice may be enacted, that healing may be experienced, and that those who do not experience this kind of marginalization would listen.
